According to H. Silvestre, "Notices et extraits des manuscripts 5413-22, 10098-105 et 10127-44 de la Bibliotheque Royale de Bruxelles," ff.23-30 is a regular quaternio, ff.31-33 binion missing its first folium.Foliated in red inc on the top right corner of every recto (1-128). Previous pagination in pencil on the top outher corner of every recto and verso (1-122).

Table of content added in s. XII (?) on the first medieval flyleaf listing the letter of Pope Nicolaus I to Hincmar as wll as"ysidorus (?) de distinctione temporum" and "reuolutio spere".

Binding: The original carolingian binding was restaurated preserving, however, its characteristics. The wooden boards have probably never been covered. The coat of arms Jacob Pamelius engraved on the front. For a detailed description of the binding see Léon Gilissen, La reliure occidentale antérieure à 1400 d’après les manuscrits de la Bibliothèque Royale Albert Ier à Bruxelles (Turnhout: Brepols, 1983), pp. 31-73, 118-121 and plates V, VII, VIII, XXIII, XXV and LIV, and Berthe Van Regemorter, 'Évolution de la technique de la reliure,' Scriptorium 2 (1948): 275-285.

History: The manuscript is composed of several codicological units.Separate leaf: Reims, 863. Codicological unit 1 encompass the first two quires (ff.1-14). The third quire (ff.15-22) is written by a different contemporary hand but has a quire mark"VI" on f. 22v. This suggests that here starts a separate codicological unit, labeled here 2 (ff.15-33). The following quire V (ff.34-41) begins without any title and touches on the same topic as the previous text (on the deposition of Rothad of Soissons). The end overlaps with the end of the quire numbered "IIII". This indicate either that this quire once preceded the third quire or that it belonged to another manuscript. The slight differences in the layout (dimensions of the written space) give some preferences for the second suggestion and so in this description ff.34-41 are listed as a separate codicological unit 3. The first 41 folios were copied in Reims ca. 853 in "typische Hincmar-Minuskel" (Bischoff, Katalog I). Silvestre (1953) dated these quires to the years 862-867. Codicological unit 4 on quire VI (ff.42-49) was written probably inReims in s. X1 (Bischoff, Katalog I). Silvestre (1953) dated it to s. IX. Codicological unit 5 on quire VII (ff.50-62) was written inReims in s. IX2, after 853 (Bischoff, Katalog I). Silvestre (1953) dated it to ca. 855. Codicological unit 6 on quires VIII-XIII and XV (ff.63-108 and 117-124) was written inNorth-east France in s. IX3/3 (Bischoff, Katalog I). Quire-mark "II"-"V" on f. 78v, 86v, 94v, 100v respectively (first quire-mark probably cut out with the lower margin missing on f. 70). Codicological unit 7 on quire XIV (ff.109-116) is dated by Bischoff (1967) tos. X2. He noticed that the quire was once folded in two - a sign that it was carried probably in the inner pocket. Ff. 125-128 (here labelled as Codicological unit 8) were written inBretagne in s.IX1 (Bischoff, Katalog I). It is not sure how these leaves were once attached to the codex. — Ins. XVI2 the manuscript belonged to the Flemish theologian Jacobus Pamelius (1536-1587). His coat of arms is engraved on the front cover with the motto "Daultrui te pas mesle" (cf. Bergen-Pantens, Christiane van den. L’ Heraldique dans les manuscrits anterieurs a 1600: Exposition Chapelle de Nassau, 8 mai-15 juin 1985. Bruxelles: Bibliotheque Royale Albert Ier, 1985, Nr. 76, p. 81.; for the activities of Pamelius see also Gorman, Michael. “Jacob Pamelius (1536-1587) and a St Victor Manuscript Used for the 1563 Edition of Bede: Paris Lat. 14489.” Scriptorium 52, no. 2 (1998): 321–30). Pamelius donated the manuscript to theJesuit College in Bruges, cf. the exlibris on the first flyleaf "Collegii Societatis Iesu Brug. ex dono Rmt D. Iac. Pamelii". — After the suppression of the Jesuit Colleges ins. XVIII the manuscript was transferred to the Royal Library in Brussels.
