"›Expliciunt capitula libri huius scripti‹
— Starts with an introduction based partly on Cassiodore, Institutiones II, 7 – on astronomy what it is, what are the topics covered by it. Added as first chapter to it Isidore’s rendering of the differences between astronomy and astrology and the phenomena which are treated. For providing the general cosmological framework, the definition of ‘mundus’, the compiler preferred Isidore’s rendering instead of that of Bede. Bede placed more attention on the elements and the vertical possition with earth floating over water, covered by air and fire at the outmost layer. Isidore on the contrary provided a more geographical description of the world, pointing to the fact that it is always in motion and naming the four climata.
Bede followed Genesis for his account of the world, its’s elements and parts. The fragments used by Pliny – that the world is in motion, as it hangs suspended
26v-30v Ps.
— … sigibertus rex obiret crinnita multos apparuit.
