Codicological unit 2 (ff. 158-172)
158r De signis coeli [C] ancer habet stellas splendidas in testo IIII Order corrupted perhaps by the rebinding: starts with twins/cancer; The two bear on fol. 160r - both called Felix - Twins (fol. 158r) should follow after fol.162v - after Virgo - so it is one bifolio 158r-159v; 160r-162v - trinio; Frames drawn after the figures;perhaps the scribe responsible for the initials mistook it as he also didn't put initials on some folios. Probably not originally part of the MS, hard to say when it was added and also the origin might be different from that of the other part(s). Some of the images in frames some not... Initials missing. Text and illustration not always on the same page. What was the choice which images to put in a frame and which not to? Probably frame was placed after the images as the image overlaps it often. The text for the last two images Hydra and antecanis is missing - Lippincot suggest that the text came after the images; this is clear by the way text image interact - example fol. 168v with the rays coming from the mouth of Canis and entering the space of the text - the words are adjusted so not to conflict with the image. But what about the frame - ont he same folio - the initial L for Lepus is perhaps under the frame - so frames might have been added later. Ends with fol. 171r - the two images of Hydra and antecanis; fol. 171v - blank just a stamp of bibliothecae regiae. If indeed the images were added first, then the text partial or no; with initials here and there; and later the frame - some long process to accomplish the task - someone perceive it as important text.
