Cod. Ser. n. 2065 is a physical reconstruction of a dismembered manuscript. Like other Carolingian manuscripts, it was probably cut apart and used as binding waste in the 15th century to refurbish the bindings of other Mondsee books. In the course of the 19th and 20th centuries librarians from the former Court library (now the Austrian National Library) detached the fragments from bindings and recollected them under the shelfmark Cod. Ser. n. 2065. The all together 211 fragments can be reconstructed to 92 leaves. Recently found fragments have been left in-situ in the bindings of the following manuscripts: Vienna, ÖNB, Codd. 1953, 2996, 3247, 3781, 3816, 3839, 5001 and 5426. They present 3 further leaves of the original manuscript.
Support: The fragments were foliated several times in the course of the 20th century. The present foliation from 2018 accounts also fragments, which were previously part of the Collection of fragments and had their own shelfmarks. The foliation considers reconstructed leaves, which in some cases are made up of several fragments. So for instance the current fol. 51 consists of a fragmented leaf previously foliated '25c' and a fragment with former shelfmark 'Fragm. 828-1'. The physical reconstruction consists of fragments in diverse state and size, ranging from almost completely preserved double leaves to thin strips. Smaller fragments, particularly former sewing supports were mounted on goldbeater skin. Partly illegible due to glue residue or rubbed off ink, traces of rust from the host volumes.

Script: Carolingian minuscule. Uncial for the praefatio (fol. 3v). Punctuation: perhaps added after the text on the page was copied (a practice suggested by Parkes who observed that often the punctuation was written with the same ink as the text and was perhaps introduced by the scribe into the spaces left for it immediately after copying the page) see for example f. 77rb, line 15: "suae se(cundum)" written with nextus; punctus versus added later - check if with the same ink, the same dark brown colour.
The preserved fragments were copied by two hands.Hand A wrote a calligraphic Carolingian minuscule from ff. 1r-5v. Hand B follows on ff. 6r-92v writing a similarly calligraphic Carolingian minuscule with a smaller x-height.
Binding: The fragments were mounted on goldbeater skin and previously stitched together to form a book. Since, however, further fragments were added to the reconstruction, the order became outdated. Since 2008 the fragments were cut loose from the modern binding and are stored (grouped according to the original sequence) in folders in a box.
