Part 1

Support: Quire marks in roman numerlas on the last verso of quires, mostly quaterniones: fols. 8v (I), 16v (II), 24v (IIII), 32v (V), 40v (VI), 48v (VII), 54v (VIII), 62v (VIIII), 70v (X), 78v (XI), 86v (XII), 94v (XIII), 102v (XIIII), 110v and 118v probably cut out with the lower margin (XV? and XVI?), 124v (XVII).

History: Written in s. IX. Viré (1981) suggested that the manuscript was written in Northern France, possibly in Auxerre (following a suggestion by B. Bischoff). Laistner and Beeson considered it a product of Fleury. Pellegrin argued for a French origin; script exhibiting insular influence by the execution of initials (?). According to Mostert the manuscript consists of five distinctive parts: ff- 1-16, 17-86, 87-124, 125-164 and 164-179, whereby the first three (ff. 1-124) are contemporary and homogenous (following here Munk Olsen). — By the 16 th c. the manuscript was probably in the Abbey of Fleury-sur-Loire as it matches the succinct title (Liber Bedae presbyteri de natura rerum) of No 254 in the catalogue of 1552. Ownership note by Pierre Daniel of Orleans (d. 1603) on f. 1r; according to Pellegrini also his marginal notes in the manuscript.
